The internal compass rose…

You may not take the course that everyone else does. Nor the one that you had plotted out from the start; but if you follow your inspiration and roll with life’s crazy waves, you may find that you’ll end up exactly where you were always meant to be.

Our logo’s wave is reminiscent of The Great Wave of Kanagawa, highlighting the struggle between our ideals and what the world hands us. It also inspired my very favorite piece of art, Starry Night, by Vincent Van Gogh.

The extremely overwhelming feeling of the wave’s vast depths and claw-like crests that threaten to pull you under, captures the struggle of living in a world where everything is not, nor ever will be, 100% great. But as the Italian poet Dante once said, “The clash between nature and humans is sealed in that prior moment, where anything can yet occur.”

The compass rose is off-kilter because, if you look in the dictionary, off-kilter is described as unusual, quirky, abnormal, offbeat, or even off-the-wall.

And maybe that is exactly what we need?

Our weirdness is what makes us fun, it makes us entertaining, unique, and most of all it makes us who we are. We are all Unicorns; rare mythical, magical creatures in our own wonderfully beautiful peculiar ways.

And maybe, if we can learn to embrace our zaniness then others will be able to embrace theirs too.

Let your little light shine forth, let your freak flag fly high, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll end up with a world where we are all celebrated, encouraged, and supported in following our dreams as well as creating our own art.

Wouldn’t that be a wonderful thing?
